Recognition was the starting point

The target was the SF-26 in Leclerc’s number 16 configuration: its proportions, body transitions, paint boundaries and sponsor arrangements. A convincing general impression could not settle a disputed inlet, an awkward shoulder or the wrong number shape. Those questions required comparison against the supplied references.

Builders constructed and revised the asset in Blender, while a separate critic examined the evidence. Saved Python scripts made those changes reproducible. The result is a public-reference exterior reconstruction, with documented approximations where photographs could not establish hidden structure.

The private production work included an editable Blender scene and a portable model tested in a local browser. The scene needed to retain useful artwork controls; the portable version needed to carry the reviewed surfaces and graphics through a different rendering system. This public case study shares images of that work. The model files remain private.

Let the reference challenge the model

Reference alignment and a researched livery workflow became central to the build. Livery research continued while geometry was still being revised, without treating unfinished surfaces as ready for paint. Official Ferrari imagery governed visible identity. Other photographs could corroborate a detail, but a miniature’s wheel treatment or exaggerated seam could not silently replace the primary source.

The inspection set used top and side orthographic model views, which remove perspective scaling, alongside front and rear perspective views. These were complementary tests, not four interchangeable orthographic drawings. Photographs bring camera uncertainty, occlusion and lighting into the comparison. An apparent size mismatch can come from the camera as well as the object.
